The Evansville police chief is back on the job after being put on administrative leave last week.

Chief Tom Laughrey returned to work Friday, exactly one week after he was put on leave, according to a short email from Evansville Mayor Phil Hinds.

"His job is not in jeopardy," the email concludes.

Evansville officials still have not explained why Laughrey was placed on administrative leave in the first place, nor have they detailed why he was allowed to return to work.

Laughrey, like Hinds, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Several sources previously told K2 Radio News that former Casper police chief Jim Wetzel was being considered to replace Laughrey as chief in Evansville. That, it seems, is not the case at this point.
