A man who was recently released from federal prison, is heading to state prison, after admitting he tried to break into the safe at a Casper restaurant.

Forty-two year old David Scroggins was sentenced to three-to-five year in prison after he pleaded guilty to one charge of burglary.

Investigators with the Casper Police Department say in October, a manager at the Perkins restaurant came in one morning to find the place had not been cleaned, the door to the cash office was open, the change box from a toy machine had been forcibly removed, a donation jar missing, a large metal safe had been damaged, and the security camera had been covered up by a receipt.

After examining what video that could be looked at, before the camera was covered up, it was determined that Scroggins, who was working as a night janitor at the restaurant, was the one who committed the crimes.

When interviewed, Scroggins said he had been homeless, since he had been released from prison.
