The Casper Mountain Fire Department has been called to put out a lot of unattended camp fires in Rotary Park and other campgrounds on Casper Mountain.

Because of the extreme fire danger in the area, Natrona County Fire Warden Mike Haigler has asked the Natrona County Commission to order that fires be banned at camp grounds on the mountain that are operated by the Natrona County Parks Department. These campgrounds include:

  • Rotary Park.
  • Tower Hill.
  • Deer Haven.
  • Bear Trap Meadow.
  • Strube Loop.
  • Ponderosa Park.
  • Archery Range.

The order prohibits any open burning of any type in established fire pits or on the ground.

Gas grills are still allowed at this time.

The order amends the partial fire restrictions the commission imposed on Aug. 5.

Those restrictions applied to trash burning, fires in fire rings and grills, open flames in unimproved area, cutting torches and arc welding, fireworks and explosives, chain saws, and branding.

They are similar to those imposed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management last month for Natrona, Platte, Converse, and Goshen counties.
