Cody Teacher Pleads Guilty to Sex with Student
CODY, Wyo. (AP) — A former Douglas and Cody special education teacher has pleaded guilty to having sex with an underage student.
In exchange for a potentially lighter sentence, Katie Marcus pleaded guilty on May 20 to third-degree sexual molestation of a minor. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend she be placed on supervised probation for up to five years. After completing the probation the conviction could be wiped from her record.
The judge must approve the plea agreement.
According to court documents, Marcus approached a 17-year-old Douglas student in 2013. The two exchanged picture messages and eventually had sex. The teenager Snapchatted evidence of the intimate encounter to his friends.
The Cody School Board accepted Marcus's resignation in September. She was arrested in August.
