CODY, Wyo. (AP) — The board that oversees the Cody Stampede rodeo in northern Wyoming is open to adding a woman or two among its 17 members.

Official records are sketchy, but it's almost certain there has not been a woman on the board of directors since Caroline Lockhart helped found the Buffalo Bill Cody Stampede in 1920.

Jim Facinelli, who has served on the board for 48 years, recalled some discussion about 30 or 40 years ago about adding a woman but the idea was rejected after strong opposition by some board members back then.

The 79-year-old Facinelli says times have changed and it would be a good idea to invite a couple of women to serve as board members.

There are currently seven vacancies on the board.
