Many trees throughout the city have lost most of their leaves.

And many residents will be raking them.

To help Casperites dispose of leaves, the city will be collecting bagged leaves only on both extra collection days in November, according to a news release.

The city also is temporarily suspending the three-item limit and allowing residents to place multiple bags for collection.

Casper's solid waste manager Cynthia Langston makes these recommendations:

  • Bagged leaves should be placed at least three feet from garbage containers.
  • Alley customers may place the bags behind their property in the alley.
  • Curbside customers need to place their bags at the curb for pickup.
  • Bags should be placed by 7 a.m. on the day of collection and should not be placed before the day of collection.

“All the leaves collected will be taken to the compost yard," Langston said. “By collecting only leaves we can save landfill space and make great compost.“

Yard waste including grass, leaves and branches also can be taken for free to the compost yard located at the solid waste facility north of Casper on Metro Road off Bryan Stock Trail. The facility is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Only bagged leaves will be collected on the extra collection days in November.

Extra collection is either the first and third, or second and fourth trash days of the month.

Residents can find their extra leaf collection day on the city’s website at www.casperwy.gov or by calling 235-8246.
