After light snowfall in the Casper area early Friday morning, and after heavy snowfall Thursday night in parts of Montana and North Dakota, officials with the Casper Public Service Department are assessing the early readiness of their snow plow fleet.

Administrative analyst for the Casper Public Service Department Jolene Martinez says the city is ready now to combat winter-like conditions.

We were ready by Wednesday to go," Martinez said. "We have a maximum of 18 dump trucks that can be turned into plows and salters, and they have all be serviced and outfitted and are ready to go."

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Friday for mountainous areas south of Casper and Douglas. A winter weather advisory was also issued Friday for the southwest corner of the state.
