A single vehicle rollover crash on Saturday afternoon resulted in the death of a Cheyenne woman. It happened approximately 32 miles north of Cheyenne on US 85 at 12:49 p.m.

An SUV was heading northbound when it partially went off the roadway to the right. The driver corrected back to the left onto the roadway and went partially into the southbound traffic lane where the vehicle was over-corrected back to the right. The truck then went fully off the roadway into the ditch and rolled. During the rollover, the driver, 35 year old Laura K. Veltkamp, was not buckled in and was ejected from the vehicle. She was injured fatally during the crash.

Four passengers in the vehicle, all minors, were taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and hospitalized. Three were taken by ground ambulance and one by air ambulance. The minor taken by air ambulance was not buckled in at the time of the crash. The other three were either buckled in or properly restrained in child seats.

Distracted driving and improper lane use are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash.
