The Casper Police Department says it plans to step up enforcement in overnight parking zones in the downtown area.

Parking is not permitted between 3am and 6am year-round, because that's usually when the street sweepers do their job in the summer, and snow plow crews do theirs in the winter.

Detective John Hatcher says those who live downtown can usually park in the downtown parking structure, but sometimes people who return home really late, don't like to do that, and there are a number of other misconceptions about the parking situation.

"It's ok to park there, oh I parked there, my friend didn't get a ticket, so I can park there. It's something that we're getting back on that, aggressively citing people again. I think that a lot of times people just don't understand that it's not that big a deal. what's it matter if I park at 3:30 or 4 o'clock in the morning and it's not causing anyone harm, no one is down here."

Detective Hatcher says the fine for overnight parking in downtown Casper is about $15.
