CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A Casper College instructor is challenging congresswoman Cynthia Lummis.

Chris Henrichsen teaches political science and has been involved in local Democratic organizations but has never run for political office before.

According to the Associated Press, the 35-year-old said that he wants to return control of education policy to the states and wants to change the tax structure, which he says favors the wealthy.

Henrichsen acknowledged that he faces an uphill battle in the strongly Republican state.

Lummis won more than 70 percent of the vote in 2010 against Democrat David Wendt. In a short statement, she said she looks forward to discussing the issues that are important to Wyoming and the nation with all candidates.

Henrichsen is married with three children and has lived in Wyoming for two years.
