Wyoming Judge Upholds Campground Shares, Appeal Planned
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A Wyoming judge has ruled local officials can't prohibit fractional ownership of campgrounds.
Teton County District Judge Timothy Day recently struck down a local regulation that prohibited multiple people from owning a campground. The case applied to two campgrounds in the Jackson area with cabins and spaces for motor homes, trailers and tents.
Owner Jamie Mackay sought to sell ownership shares in each campground. Shareholders would be able camp on and rent out their spaces to others.
Complaints from neighbors prompted Teton County officials last year to threaten fines of up to $750 per day for selling the shares. Mackay sued and won.
Teton County officials have filed notice they plan to appeal to the Wyoming Supreme Court.
