In search of their first 4-0 start to begin a season since 1996, the Wyoming Cowboys play at the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Saturday afternoon.

The game will start at 1:30 p.m. KOWB (AM 1290) in Laramie or KTWO (AM 1030) in Casper will carry the radio broadcast. CBS Sports Network will televise the game.

Series

Wyoming (3-0) hasn’t played the Golden Hurricane since 1998. This will be the sixth meeting in the series. The Pokes hold a slim lead of 3-2. UW is 1-2 on the road in the series.

Tulsa (1-2) has losses to Michigan State and Oklahoma State and a win over San Jose State.

UW is a 5.5-point underdog entering this game.

Game Matchups

The Cowboys have run the ball well in the first three games. They are averaging 245.3 yards per game. Trey Smith and Sean Chambers are the leading rushers at 74 and 65.3 yards per game, respectively.

The Golden Hurricane features a spread attack led by QB Zach Smith. Running back Shamari Brooks is averaging 82.3 rushing yards per game and has three touchdowns. Linebacker Cooper Edmiston is their leading tackler at 8.3 per game.

Player Focus

UW has received improved play on defense in the last six quarters of game action. Junior defensive end Garrett Crall has had three sacks in the last two games. He visited with KOWB’s David Settle about where the team’s at, the atmosphere around it, the improved defensive play, the D-Line, and how he got to Wyoming.

3 Areas to Watch

1 – Can the Cowboys’ defense continue their improved play? Over the last six quarters, Wyoming has allowed only six points and slowed the opposing offense down. Can they do the same at Tulsa?

2 – Will Wyoming ever score in the first quarter? The Pokes have been out-scored 24-0 in the first quarter of the opening three games. Has UW been playing with fire? This hasn’t been troubling given their ability to come back and win games, but at some point, a good start could make things easier.

3 – Is this the week the passing game comes together? Even Coach Bohl during his weekly press conference admitted, that he would load the box and force his own team to try and beat ‘em through the air. The Cowboys are only averaging 81.7 yards per game passing.

Cowboy Talk with host David Settle will follow today’s radio broadcast on KOWB (AM 1290) and the KOWB app.
