Today is the last day of the 2021 General Session of the Legislature, although a special session is expected to be called later this year.

The bill is cosponsored by almost two-thirds of the entire Legislature, making it likely to eventually pass.

The bills were defeated at a meeting of the Joint Committee on Corporations, Elections and Political Subdivisions in Jackson Monday.

Rep. Lars Lone said he was given the wrong ballot on election day, and thought the ID bill would help prevent such problems.

Currently, registered voters do not need to provide identification in order to vote.
