The terminated lease marked the latest in the half-decade saga of city government's goal, largely driven by former City Manager John Patterson, of a conference center and hotel complex somewhere near downtown.
The developer's proposal at the Parkway Plaza so far includes a 40,000-square-foot facility would have a 25,000-square-foot ballroom plus offices and other rooms.
The funding for the $5.3 million project, initially set at $6 million, is already in the bank from excess revenues from the Optional One-Percent Sales Tax No. 14.
