“Up to 40 percent of babies born to people with untreated syphilis may be stillborn or die from the infection as a newborn" cautions Dr. Alexia Harris, an epidemiologist with the Wyoming Department of Health.

The department is funded by allocations from the City of Casper, Natrona County, the state and grants.

The state will reimburse the county on a monthly basis.

The state also reported a rise in the number of cases of Chlamydia.
