On May 24, a jury found former Casper Dr. Shakeel Kahn guilty of dispensing oxycodone and other prescription drugs resulting in death.

U.S. District Court Judge Alan Johnson set the sentencing dates for Shakeel and Nabeel Kahn for Aug. 1.

Shakeel Kahn faces 45 years to life imprisonment according to federal sentencing guidelines.

Shakeel Kahn is charged with 21 counts in a 23-count indictment including conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and other drugs resulting in death.

The closing arguments will resume at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday

Monday morning, Shakeel Kahn admitted that he did not keep good records of visits, and often copied and pasted notes from previous patient visits on more recent visits.

The trial resumes at the Ewing Kerr Federal Courthouse, 111 S. Wolcott, at 9 a.m. Monday. The prosecution is expected to conduct an extensive cross-examination.

The Arizona Board of Medicine suspended Shakeel Kahn’s license in August 2016, three months before the Wyoming Board of Medicine did the same in November.
