North Platte River

Multiple agencies have responded to an incident near North Poplar and First Street, in which a vehicle drove off the road and into the North Platte River.

The Casper Police Department on Saturday evening announced that one person has died from drowning in the North Platte River.

The City of Casper has put out a statement imploring the community to bring back loaner life jackets that are used for water activities.

The EPA and the U.S. Coast Guard administer the Clean Water Act.

The mussels are common elsewhere in the Mississippi River Basin but hadn't been found in Wyoming since 2008.

The Platte River Trail through the park will remain open to the public.

Deputies responded to the scene. Saratoga and Encampment Search and Rescue personnel entered the river via boat.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol is reminding people to never drive drowsy after a trucker fell asleep Thursday on I-80 and plunged into the North Platte River.
