A silver SUV crashed into the rear of the school bus.

Muehler had been southbound on Wyoming 789 when a deer walked into the roadway, Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Eli Miller told WYDOT.

The driver of the pickup survived the crash and was hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

Wheeler and his two passengers -- his 15-year-old sister, Destinee Wheeler, and 20-year-old Paul McEwan -- all died in last month's crash north of Lander.

Although the victims' names were used by others on social media in the wake of the crash, Stratmoen was unable to release the names until authorities could notify family members.

Investigators are looking at excessive speed and driver inattention as contributing factors in the crash.
