Per court records, the City believes that releasing the settlement "may have an unintended chilling effect on government entities' ability and desire to enter into settlement agreements to resolve legal disputes, which predictably over time will cause substantial injury to the public interest."

In June 2021, U.S. District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl agreed that the officers acted appropriately under the circumstances, but he did not deal with a part of the defendants’ request regarding wrongful death claims under Wyoming state law.

A trial date has not been set in the case.

The incident occurred on the night of Feb. 26, 2018, when the officers responded to a call from the Loaf 'n Jug, 1510 Centennial Court.

She is seeking damages for pain and suffering, mental anguish, funeral expenses, loss of Oneyear's service and future earnings, and attorneys fees.

After the shooting, the case was turned over to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation

The case started on the night of Feb. 26, 2018, when two officers responded to a threatening call at the Loaf 'n Jug, 1510 Centennial Court.

District Attorney Michael Blonigen wrote that officers faced a "suicide by cop situation."

Todd Hambrick, an attorney representing the family, said that Oneyear's sword was a dull movie replica with a rounded tip.
