Potter was convicted in December of first- and second-degree manslaughter in the April 11 killing of Wright, who was Black.

“Let’s not be silent,” she said. “Let’s not close our eyes and close our mouths. Let’s keep agitating for change. Maybe what we don’t need is a police department, but a department of public safety.”

A ‘silent vigil for justice’ will take place on Sunday, April 25 from 7pm-9pm in downtown Casper.

The Minnesota Freedom Fighters, a group of Black men, are at the scene to protest but are also determined to keep things peaceful.
