Defending 4A state champion Natrona opened the season on Friday night with a rousing 68-12 win over Cheyenne South at Cheney Alumni Field. The Mustangs first touchdown was set up by a long completion from Harrison Taubert to Cooper Quig that went inside the 5-yard line. Dante Wallace punched it in from the one for the TD and the Mustangs never looked back. Wallace also had a 3 yard run for a touchdown in the first quarter but South answered with a touchdown run of their own from Jayden Cummings to make it 14-6. Natrona scored 3 times in the 2nd quarter as Taubert had a 3 yard to the end zone followed by a Wilsk Jackson interception return for a touchdown and Braxton Bundy added a 4-yard run to the end zone. Natrona led 34-6 at halftime and added 5 more touchdowns in the 2nd half. NC will host Gillette this week while South goes to Thunder Basin.
