When you top a national ranking, it’s either something to celebrate or something to be concerned about. These national rankings give us insight into things we should be proud of in Colorado and Wyoming, but also they point out problems we have.

Unfortunately, a new ranking has pointed out a problem that we need to pay more attention to.

Colorado and Wyoming lead the nation in driving fatalities due to drowsiness, according to a new report from Anidjar & Levine. Anidjar & Levine are accident attorneys who have analyzed data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to their research, 4.5% of fatal accidents in Colorado are due to the driver being exhausted, and 8.8% of fatal accidents in Wyoming are due to drowsiness.

Wyoming and Colorado lead the nation in fatal accidents due to being tired.

Tired Driving in Colorado and Wyoming

I have been the driver on quite a few road trips during my life. I typically take pride on how long I can drive without stopping. On my most recent road trip, I learned quickly that making stops and rest is more efficient and safe.

There are no laws that limit your time on the road in Colorado, however, there are certain recommendations.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration recommends that if you are taking a road trip, the driver should not drive more than 10 hours in a day.

Make sure you are not putting yourself, and others, in danger. Don't feel bad about needing a break.

According to 2022 data from Consumer Affairs, the 10 cities in the gallery below are home to some of the worst drivers in Colorado for fatal crashes, DUIs, and speeding fatalities.
