Meet Rodney Carrington: A Comedy Legend Coming To Casper

Casper has become a comedy hot spot over the last couple of years, and 2026 is already shaping up to be another huge year. The Ford Wyoming Center has announced that comedy legend Rodney Carrington will be in Casper on April 3, 2026.

I've had the privilege of seeing Rodney live many times (most recently in Deadwood this fall), I've watched his TV show Rodney, seen all of his comedy specials on TV, and hung out with him a couple of times.

The first time I met him was way back in 1999. He had released his first comedy album about a year earlier and was becoming a household name in the comedy business. When you meet a comedian, you never really know what you're going to get. Sometimes, they need the microphone, lights, and club/ show atmosphere to bring out their humor.

I mean, think about it. If you're a mechanic, for example, I'm sure you don't want everyone to ask you to change their oil or spark plugs when you're off the clock, right? That wasn't the case with Rodney. He was a funny guy and wasn't even really trying.

I assume that's why he and Toby Keith got along, even though their relationship started on a rocky path. Lately, I've been in a weird Toby pattern, and things keep going in that direction. I've referenced his song "As Good as I Once Was" quite a bit because of being sore after a long truck ride. I was reflecting on the first time I met Toby. He was on his bus behind a club in his underpants, doing the interview. Then I stumbled on the story of Toby and Rodney's relationship, to complete the Toby Keith trilogy.

If you haven't seen that story told from Rodney's perspective, I'm including the video below, but I laugh until I cry every time I watch it. It's worth your time, and will get you fired up to see him at the Ford Wyoming Center on April 3.
