Step Back In Time At Fort Laramie’s Living History Weekend
If you're a history buff and love doing your part to ensure that Wyoming history is passed down from generation to generation, Fort Laramie is looking for you.
The Circle of Fire event is coming August 8-10. The event is a living history weekend, not just a re-enactment battle, but a whole weekend dedicated to how life was lived at the Fort in 1865.
There will be lantern tours, ranger programs, historic weapons demonstrations, and Dr. Martha A. Sandwiss will be on hand to talk about her book, 'The Girl in the Middle.' The book tells the story of a photo captured at Fort Laramie during the treaty negotiations in the late 1860s.
To make the weekend a success, volunteers are needed to play the roles of soldiers and civilians who will be on-site to bring the history alive. The demonstrations will be the basics of garrison life, and will include drills and a demonstration of how the weapons of the time worked. It's not going to be a vacation, but it's worth your time and effort.
All living historians must follow the 1865 regulations of the army when comes to articles of clothing and using materials that follows below. Infantry for this event will portray Company “K”, 3rd U.S. Volunteer Infantry (Galvanized Yankees, former Confederate POWs).
If you're interested, you can fill out this FORM. It asks simple questions and gives you the details you'll need about the attire, timeframe, and equipment you'll need to for the weekend.
If you're not able to volunteer, but have a chance to check out a part of the weekend, you can find information at FortLaramie.org.
