Improvements may be coming to the Casper Events Center's lighting system.

Casper City Council on Tuesday will decide whether to approve a nearly $190,000 contract with Casper-based Summit Electric. If approved, the firm will be tasked with retrofitting the existing lighting system at the city’s 8,395-seat arena.

City officials say the project will address several inadequacies with the current system, particularly in regard to energy savings. Officials also say the updated system will help extend lamp life and improve optical control and dimming capabilities.

Last year, councilors approved a $1.2 million dollar contract for the purchase and installation of new chairback seating at the events center.

If approved, funding for the lighting project will come from one-cent sales tax funds.
