Fire Damages House In East-Central Casper
No one was injured during a house fire in east-central Casper on Thursday afternoon, according to a news release from the Casper Fire-EMS Department.
However, fire damage to an electrical panel in the house in the 200 block of Robin Street rendered the house uninhabitable until repairs can be made, the news release said.
Casper Fire-EMS responded shortly after noon to a report of smoke at a residence.
Fire crews found the house with a significant amount of smoke inside, entered, and saw a fire in the kitchen area and the exterior deck area. They soon extinguished the fire.
Two dogs were located in the back yard with no apparent injuries.
The house sustained smoke damage, and fire damage was limited to the kitchen and the deck area.
No dollar estimate has been determined as of today.
Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental, and caused by improperly disposed smoking materials. It started on the deck and burned into the crawl space and into the kitchen.
Casper Fire-EMS was assisted by Casper police and the Wyoming Medical Center.
Casper Fire-EMS reminds residents to use caution when disposing smoking materials, especially in windy conditions:
- Always dispose smoking materials and ashes in a non-combustible container such as a metal can with a lid.
- Never dispose smoking materials in combustible containers such as plastic or plants.
- Never mix disposed smoking materials and other types of trash.
- Keep the smoking materials in the container wet and dispose them frequently.
