A Casper man is accused of getting into a fight and using a butter knife as a weapon.

Twenty-six year old Edward Matheri has pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a deadly weapon with unlawful intent.

Investigators with the Casper Police Department say in middle November, Matheri was visiting an apartment with several other people on the 300 block on North Lincoln Street.

According to witnesses, some in the group, including Matheri were playing cards and drinking, when an argument started, which turned into a fight with Matheri swinging first, and during the altercation, Matheri grabbed a butter knife and cut one person with it.

It is unknown what the argument was over.

When questioned by police, Matheri said the people in the apartment were against him and were assaulting him, and denied grabbing a knife and cutting somebody.

He is being held on $15,000 bond awaiting trial, and could face up to 10 years in prison on the aggravated assault charge, and up to five years in prison on the possession of a deadly weapon charge, if convicted.
