A Casper man sentenced for child pornography in federal court last week was charged with second-degree sexual assault of a minor on Wednesday.

Rick William Olsen, 49, heard the single count during his initial appearance in Natrona County Circuit Court.

Olsen is charged with making a child under 13 (born in 2008) sexually touch him multiple times from May 2014 to June 2015, according to circuit court records. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 20 years imprisonment.

Even though he is in federal custody, Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Reece recommended, and Judge Steve Brown agreed, his bond should be set at $50,000. Olsen will be scheduled for a preliminary hearing within a few weeks to determine whether his case should be bound over for trial.

Last week, U.S. District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl sentenced Olsen to six years, eight months imprisonment on one count of possession of child pornography. A second count of transportation of child pornography was dismissed at the sentencing.

Besides the prison term, Skavdahl recommended he be placed at the federal prison in Englewood, Colo., participate in a sex offender treatment program, and be on probation for 10 years after his release.

Olsen also will serve the federal sentence concurrently, or at the same time, for whatever punishment is handed down in the new case of sexual assault of a minor, according to federal court documents.
