YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — A Texas woman has died in Yellowstone National Park when she was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross a road to watch an eagle.

Yellowstone spokeswoman Charissa Reid says the 47-year-old woman was struck and killed on the West Entrance Road, about 2 miles inside the park, shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Reid says the woman was visiting the park with friends. Reid says the woman apparently was crossing the road to look at an eagle when she was hit by a vehicle coming out of the park.

Reid says authorities aren't releasing the woman's name or hometown because the investigation is continuing.

Reid says pedestrian fatalities are a rare occurrence in Yellowstone.
