Highway Patrol Seizes Nearly $1 Million Worth Of Pot

The Wyoming Highway Patrol interdicted 233 pounds of marijuana during four traffic stops along Interstate 80 during the Thanksgiving holiday week, according to a news release from Patrol Sgt. David Wagener.

On Nov. 23, WHP troopers and agents with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation arrested Christopher P. McGinley after he was stopped traveling eastbound on I-80 east of Rock Springs.

Law enforcement officers found and seized 72 pounds of marijuana.

McGinley, 31, of Old Bridge, N.J., was taken to the Sweetwater County Detention Center in Rock Springs. He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Officers believe the marijuana, with an estimated street value of $300,000, came from California and was destined for New Jersey.

The DCI has taken over the case.

The other three stops on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday occurred in the Cheyenne area on I-80, and resulted in the seizure of 161 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $670,000.

These three cases are still active investigations with DCI, and specific details are not being released at this time.
