A Sheridan man who allegedly made counterfeit $100 bills heard the charge against him in federal court on Friday.

Wyatt T. McMahon is charged with one count of conspiracy to counterfeiting and forging obligations or securities of the United States, U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Michael Shickich told him in his initial appearance.

If convicted, McMahon faces up to 20 years imprisonment and up to a $250,000 fine, Shickich told him.

According to the federal grand jury's indictment on March 19, McMahon made the bills during July 2013.

The indictment also said co-defendant, Amanda R. Buell, faces the same charge. Buell allegedly used one of those counterfeit bills at Wa-Hoo Likkers in Buffalo. No court dates for her have been set.

Court documents did not offer details about the alleged crime.

McMahon's arraignment, during which he pleads guilty or not guilty to the charge, is set for Wednesday.
