A judge on Thursday denied the request of Casper woman guilty of four DUIs who wanted to go to Colorado Springs this weekend to attend the funeral of her grandmother.

Amber Robles asked for the temporary modification of her $20,000 bond to attend the viewing and funeral, and visit her stepfather, her public defender Rob Oldham said.

"I cannot see her violating her bond," Oldham said.

But Natrona County District Court Judge Daniel Forgey said he was sorry for Robles' loss and understood those circumstances, but he agreed with Assistant District Attorney Dan Itzen's objections regarding her history with alcohol and the potential for abuse.

"I understand where she comes from, but we have a duty to keep the community safe," Forgey said. "I cannot in good conscience modify it at this time."

Robles told Forgey she understood how he could be hesitant.

But the judge stood by his decision.

Robles has been in custody after her arrest on a fourth driving under the influence in June.

In June, Robles was arrested after causing several wrecks while driving southbound in the northbound lane, then northbound in the southbound lane of Interstate 25 before crashing near the Bryan Stock Trail exit. The wrecks resulted in four people going to the hospital, according to court records.

Robles, who was 37 at the time of her arrest, had a blood alcohol content of 0.24, or three times the legal limit, according to court documents.

By then, she had two prior DUI convictions, and a third pending DUI in an unrelated case. With three 3 DUI convictions, the fourth in less than 10 years constituted a felony.

In September, Robles pleaded guilty to one felony count of a fourth DUI, and one misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment.

As part of a plea deal, prosecutors will seek no more than a two and one-half to four year prison sentence.
