"Media Release from the Natrona County School Board of Trustees

"On August 25, 2014, Natrona County School District (NCSD or District) received complaints alleging that Natrona County High School (NCHS) personnel violated NCSD anti-‐harassment policies and legal standards during a “welcome back” and new staff introduction skit performed on that date. The skit, based on a “Saturday Night Live” parody, was presented by two NCHS employees. Approximately 215 NCHS staff members and six (6) Student Council members, who had remained in the gym after their welcoming remarks to NCHS staff, were present.

"The District retained the services of independent counsel to investigate the allegations; the District is awaiting the investigator’s written report. Further, given the Board and the District’s emphasis on student safety, District representatives met with the students who were present and representatives also contacted each student’s parents.

"The Board of Trustees reviewed a video of the skit and received a briefing on Monday evening, September 8, 2014. The Board expects, and holds administrators and staff to, high professional standards. Towards that  end, it strongly supports the decision to investigate this matter to determine how such material came to be performed in a mandatory staff meeting with students present.

"A written personnel investigation report is expected by the end of this week. The skit transcript and video will be released upon the completion of the investigation.  Upon receipt of the report, the Board and Superintendent will take action as deemed necessary in light of the findings and Board Policies 4175/5410 and 5440, NCSD work agreements and contracts, and applicable law.

"This media release is intended to inform the public while maintaining confidentiality of those elements related to personnel matters. All questions concerning this matter should be directed to Kathleen Dixon, counsel for the District, at 234-‐7321."
