YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — The number of people visiting Yellowstone National Park last month increased 6 percent from June 2011.

The park says it recorded 674,498 visitors in June, compared to about 634,000 during the month a year ago.

Visitation to the first national park is up overall for the first six months of the year compared to year-ago levels.

The park reports 1.04 million recreational visitors from January through June this year, compared to about 942,000 during the same period in 2011. That is about an 11 percent increase.

July is typically the park's peak visitation month, followed by August, June, September, and May.
