Yellowstone National Park experienced record-setting attendance in July, which is typically the park's peak visitation month.

Park officials say Yellowstone set the record with 980,702 recreational visits, a 14 percent increase over last July and a 2 percent increase over the previous July record in 2010.

Each of the park's five entrances also saw increased visits in July.

The park has hosted 2,279,557 recreational visitors from the beginning of the year through July.

That's up 17 percent over the same time period last year.

July is typically the park's peak visitation month, followed in order by August, June, September and May.
