Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave Dodson said Wednesday the 2017 tax cuts signed into law by President Trump in December are unfair and mostly help the rich.

Dodson, who is challenging incumbent U.S. Senator John Barrasso in the August 21 primary election, said the U.S. tax code now has 74,000 pages ''written by donors and lobbyists'' for the benefit of the rich.

He said that as a member of the top one percent of taxpayers, the code was "written for guys like me, and it's not fair." He said that while he favors simplifying the tax code, a flat tax is not the answer because it would place a severe burden on middle-class taxpayers.

But taxes are not the only issue on which Dodson disagrees with congressional Republicans. He also accused them of "not handling" healthcare and was critical of the lack of spending cuts that he said should have accompanied the tax cuts. In fact.

Dodson said of the current state of affairs in Washington D.C. "If you are happy with the way things are going, don't vote for me." Dodson made the comments on KGAB radio in Cheyenne.
