Some of Wyoming most scenic areas are no longer accessible to motor vehicle traffic.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation has closed a 13 mile section of Wyoming State Highway 130 west of Centennial, and a 22-mile stretch of Wyoming State Highway 70 between Encampment and Baggs, for the 2016-17 winter season.

A 22-mile stretch of US Highway 14A west of Burgess Junction northwest of Sheridan was scheduled to close on Thursday, December 1st, but inclement weather forced WYDOT crews to close it two days sooner.

WYDOT says it's not worth the effort to keep those roads cleared and open, because there is too much snow and too little traffic around this time of year.

US Highway 212 over the Beartooth Pass closed back in middle October.

All of the seasonal roads normally reopen around Memorial Day, in time for the summer traveling season.
