JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A hunter who illegally killed a deer last year will spend time on probation as part of his sentence.

Travis Gros pleaded guilty to hunting on private land without permission, failure to tag big game and wasting or abandoning big game.

He apologized before his sentencing.

Judge James Radda on Monday handed down an 18-month suspended jail sentence, $1,320 in fines and fees, two years of revoked hunting privileges, and 60 hours of community service.

Gros was also banned from the neighborhood where he killed the deer and ordered to again earn his hunter education certificate.

The sentence came after the judge rejected a lighter plea agreement.

Wyoming Game and Fish officials asked for a stiffer sentence.
