A new state report shows there were 34 occupational fatalities reported in 2016 in Wyoming, the same number recorded in the state the previous year.

Last year, 10 deaths were reported in the state's natural resources and mining industries. That total included six deaths in agriculture and four in mining, including the oil and gas and oil industries. Of the total number of occupational deaths recorded in the state, just over 40 percent were the result of transportation accidents to and from worksites.

Ten deaths were also recorded in the trade, transportation and utilities sector.

That was average of a little over 56 percent of job-related deaths between the years of 2003 and 2016.

Senior State Economist David Bullard said the fact that Wyoming's occupational death rate was unchanged between 2015 and 2016 was good news compared to the national rate, which increased by about 7 percent over that same period.
