Wyoming Mountain Lion Population Down

PINEDALE, Wyo. (AP) — State wildlife managers say an effort to reduce mountain lion populations across the state has been successful.

Wyoming Game and Fish Large Carnivore Biologist Justin Clapp says lion populations are getting down to about where they were in 2009 and 2010.

In the last two years, 250 mountain lions have been killed statewide. That is the lowest number in several years.

In addition, Clapp told the state Game and Fish Commission that the hunter success rate in 2015 was 10 percent, the lowest in a decade.

The commission last week approved lower lion hunt limits for the Jackson area.

Lion hunters have been advocating for lowering lion hunt limits to try to help increase populations.
