CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking volunteers to teach hunter education classes.

Jim Dawson is hunter education coordinator for the department. He says there’s a constant need for new hunter instructors. He says hunter education classes fill up very quickly after they’re announced.

The interest in classes is greatest immediately before season openers and hunter application periods for big game.

Wyoming’s volunteer instructors have taught more than 250 classes so far this year and have certified more than 5,600 new hunters.

Wyoming’s volunteers are not paid. Dawson says many instructors enjoy the satisfaction they get from helping young hunters and others become safe, responsible hunters while maintaining Wyoming’s hunting traditions and values.
