Most Wyoming big game animals and game birds had high survival rates this past winter, according to a release from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

That means most hunters can look forward to plentiful game, including for wild turkey now and other game birds and big game animals this fall. The agency says mule deer and pronghorn survival rates were especially high through the winter months.

The release says overall most of the state experienced "typical to mild conditions," with only "some pockets of the state experiencing harsh weather."

The report does warn, however, that late springtime storms bringing snow and colder weather are still a possibility.

One area of concern in the report is the Whiskey Mountain bighorn sheep herd, where lamb production "was once again alarmingly low." It goes on to call the situation with that herd "a grave concern for wildlife managers."
