Wyoming Child Dies of the Flu

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Department of Health has received a report of a flu-related death of a child in Fremont County.

The agency says it received the report of the death this week. However, it declined to release any details, including the age of the child.

State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist says the report should serve as a sad reminder that influenza can be a serious disease and should not be overlooked as a threat.

Harrist says the state continues to see widespread influenza with indications of high activity levels. She says it's not known if the flu season has peaked yet or for how much longer flu will spread in the state.

Wyoming typically records deaths from the flu each year, but the victims are usually adults.

At least 10 adults have died in Wyoming because of the flu this season.
