Wyoming Capitol to Get New Features

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Capitol is closing for a three-year renovation Wednesday, but lawmakers are considering a plan to add features to make the site more attractive for tourists and student groups.

Leaders were briefed on a proposal to add educational and interpretive features in the Capitol earlier this week. The additional features would likely add millions of dollars onto the $300 million Capitol Square Project.

The proposed plans call for a new welcome area, visitor's center and student center. The student center could contain mock legislative chamber or areas for teachers to give lessons.

Consultants didn't have an exact cost estimate when the plan was presented Tuesday, but documents show preliminary estimates range between $1.5 million and $3.5 million.
