GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — Police in Wyoming and Montana are investigating the apparent unauthorized cashing of a $54,000 check from one business to another.

An official at Slattery Enterprises in Gillette says the company mailed a check to Kois Brothers Equipment in Billings, Montana, in early April.

But Kois Brothers officials say their company never received the check and that it no longer occupies the building that the check was mailed to.

However, an official at Slattery Enterprises discovered that someone had cashed the check on April 15.

Campbell County Sheriff Scott Matheny said his office is trying to get a copy of the check, and it's working with the bank and the Billings Police Department, which is having a detective look into the case.
