CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Cuts in federal defense spending have resulted in more than 100 layoffs of civilian workers at the F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne.

However, it appears the Wyoming Air National Guard will escape any reductions for now.

Dale G. Steenbergen of the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce says the Air Force has cut about 110 civilian jobs at the Warren air base. The base employed just over 1,000 civilian workers before the cuts.

Steenbergen says more reductions in the base's civilian workforce could occur.

However, he says the Air Force plans to keep the 12 C-130 cargo planes that the Wyoming Guard has in Cheyenne. One older model plane will be moved elsewhere, but it'll be replaced with a newer model similar to the other 11 planes in Cheyenne.
