CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming voters will decide whether to amend the state constitution to allow nonresidents to serve on the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees.

Gov. Matt Mead signed a resolution that the Legislature passed last week. The proposal will be put to a statewide vote in the 2014 general election.

Currently, the UW trustees consist of 12 members appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate. The state constitution requires that all be Wyoming residents.

Supporters of the resolution say UW could benefit from the knowledge and experience of successful nonresidents being on the university's governing board.
