CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A study ranks Wyoming among the least energy-efficient states in the nation.

The study by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy ranks Wyoming 48th out of 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Only West Virginia, North Dakota and Mississippi ranked lower.

The council seeks to advance energy efficiency policies and programs.

Wyoming ranked poorly on energy efficient transportation policy and appliance efficiency standards.

Ben Avery of the Wyoming Business Council says Wyoming was penalized by the group for not mandating energy efficiency programs and standards.

Avery says Wyoming prefers to educate rather than mandate such things.
