Wrong Way Driver Killed In I-80 Head On
A driver headed the wrong way on Interstate 80 near Cheyenne early Thursday morning is dead after crashing into a tractor-trailer.
Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper, Sgt. Steven Townsend, says the incident happened around 1 AM.
"At the last moment the driver that was heading the wrong way changed lanes right into the path of a semi-tractor trailer and both vehicles collided head-on."
The female driver, twenty-four-year-old, Toni L. Proietti, of Rapid City was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash came just minutes after a REDDI (R eport Every Drunk Driver Immediately) Report was called in on the wrong way driver.
Townsend says suicidal intention may be part of the investigation which will also consider whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
