The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Sierra Madre and Snowy Mountain ranges for Sunday (Oct.1) afternoon through midnight on Tuesday.

Forecasters say 12-16 inches of snow is possible for the mountain ranges through Monday evening. A winter storm watch has also been issued for the Interstate 80 summit through Monday evening.

The snow is expected to reach down to about 7,000 feet, with Laramie, Rawlins and Arlington expected to get rain, and somewhere between 1-3 inches of snow.

Cheyenne, Wheatland, Douglas, and Torrington will probably get rain, but little or no snow, according to the forecast.

The Nebraska panhandle is expected to get rain only from the storm.
